And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:19
Are you currently filled with the fulness of God? If so, praise the Lord! The fact is, being filled with the fullness of God isn’t as constant as we would like. I know, if we are Christians, Christ lives in us, but are we living in the fullness of Christ? There are times our souls become dry, and it seems we are full of everything BUT God. If we’re not careful, God can get pushed out and we are left with an empty, or at best, weak, feeling in our soul. Are you absolutely overflowing with an abundance of the fruit of the Spirit? Are you on fire for God? Is the Word burning in your bones to the point you cannot contain it anymore? Are you sharing your faith with others on a daily, even weekly, basis?
We can get full of stuff = Look what we have.
A few years ago, Pam and I got an extremely large trash bag and set out to declutter our home. We began in the farthest room, working our way to the other end of the house. We didn’t get far before we needed another trash bag. We had much more stuff than we realized. Our souls are often just as cluttered as we accumulate more internal
“stuff” than we realize. Make room for what really matters – God, family, friends. Get rid of some “stuff”!
We can get full of self = Look who I am.
Have you taken a healthy assessment of yourself lately? In Luke 19:10-13, there’s a story of a Pharisee and a Publican who were praying in the temple. The Pharisee’s prayer consisted of bragging that he was much holier than the Publican. He was so full of himself he could no longer see himself. Pride is really an ugly thing. Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, it’s just thinking of yourself less. Learn to think of others. Notice I said LEARN. It doesn’t come naturally.
We can get full of success = Look what I’ve done.
There’s a very sobering story in Daniel 4:30-33. King Nebuchadnezzar takes credit for building the magnificent empire of Babylon, and God turns him into a wild beast. We are only able to do what God allows us to do. He alone gives us the gifts and abilities to succeed. So don’t get too absorbed in your own accomplishments. Be generous with credit and give the glory to God!
James 1:17 says Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Let’s make it our desire to clean out our souls this year and get so full of God that we overflow on the world around us! Pray and fast till you’re full!
