"Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him." Psalm 33:8 (KJV)
Much has been said and sung of the awesomeness of God and yet the half has not been told, nor will it ever be. The text above is believed by most theologians to be written by David, a man who certainly experienced his share of the awe of God.
As I was pondering this idea a few mornings ago, my thoughts began to fill with the attributes and qualities of an awesome God. My thoughts are not exhaustive, and perhaps not even divine, but began with a word which resonated first in my mind and then in my heart. The word is Capacity.
When I think of the capacity of God, I find myself standing in the company of David, overwhelmed with awe. Today I want to talk about God’s Capacity of Knowledge.
God knows our past, present, and future. That thought alone produces in me the awe of God. He knows our thoughts, acts, motives, and our intent.
“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.” 1 John 3:20
When our heart condemns us, He is greater than our heart and He knows the truth of our heart. And by the way, condemnation never comes from God. God brings conviction, and conviction says, “You’re wrong, but God gives you a way out.” Condemnation says, “You’re wrong and there’s no way out.”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Most Christians have this verse memorized. It gives immense hope that God has a plan for us. But have you ever stopped and thought about how many billons of people this verse was intended for? How many people through time have claimed this verse for themselves? What countless thoughts and plans God has in His mind! I must wrestle at times just to figure out the plan of God for my own life. But because of His great capacity of knowledge, God holds every thought, plan, and prosperous way for BILLIONS and yet, He still knows each one of us on an individual and intimate level!
Are you in awe of God yet? Can you sense your faith and trust in God increase? You certainly should! God’s capacity to know absolutely all things leaves me in awe, and we are just beginning with The Awe of God.
Romans 11:34 asks, “For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?” Absolutely no one.
I want to leave you to ponder this thought: GOD KNOWS YOU - YOU CAN TRUST HIM!
