How To Get Your Salt Back

”Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.“ Luke 14:34-35

In last week’s post we talked about how Demas lost his saltiness and  backslid to the world he loved. At the end of the article, I asked you to take a quick “Salt Test” by answering a few questions. I’m sure you all passed with excellence, but just in case I want to close this series with how the Bible instructs us to get our salt back.

Hyponatremia is a condition that occurs when the body lacks adequate salt. It can cause cramps, nausea, vomiting, even shock, coma, and death. Just as salt is essential to the body, being salty is important to the body of Christ as well. So, if your salt has lost its savor, how do you get your salt back?

Initially, you must be aware of your condition. If you did not take the Salt Test previously, go back now and do so. Jesus said, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Jesus wasn’t talking to unbelievers; He was talking to believers. People who were capable of hearing and understanding His Word. Hear with your heart when you hear God’s Word.

Second, assess your love. Luke 14:26. Test your love for God against the things you love the most in life. Of course, Jesus did not intend for us NOT to love our families or others, but He was illustrating that He must be our top priority. Matthew 6:33

Third, Luke 14:27. The more we die to ourselves, the more we love God. We must die to this world daily. 1 Corinthians 15:31

Fourth, Luke 14:28-30. Never underestimate the cost of staying salty. It is a very intentional action. But it is very much worth the sacrifice!

Fifth, Luke 14:31. Be willing to fight the good fight of faith all the way to the end. 1 Timothy 6:12. You can be sure, when Jesus is with you, the odds are always on your side.

Sixth, Luke 14:33. To get your salt back, you must be willing to forsake all and live in complete obedience to Christ.

I hope you take the time to study these scriptures. The Church needs Salty Saints more than ever before. I believe our opportunity to reach this world is diminishing daily and it’s going to take Salty Saints to do it!
