"Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." Luke 14:34-35 (KJV)

There are only two ways salt can lose its savor, either by contamination or separation. The chemical compound for salt is Sodium Chloride. If anything is added to that, it’s no longer salt. If you separate these two compounds, you no longer have salt. Likewise, as Christ-followers we lose our savor (effectiveness) when we contaminate the Gospel by adding to it or if we take out certain components.

When I refer to “Salty Saints” I’m not alluding to Christians who are angry, bitter, or just plain mean; I’m referencing Christ-followers who have fire, grit, and boldness without fear or compromise. Ones who submit to God’s purpose and whose lives exhibit effectiveness for the cause of Christ. People like the prophets of old, people like Peter, Paul, and Jesus. Bold and courageous to proclaim the Truth!

The Church is losing its voice. Like Elijah in 1 Kings19, the Church is running into the wilderness in fear of its life. We are asked, “Where are the salvations, where are the miracles, where is the Revival of the Last Days?” I believe one answer is in salty preachers and salty saints! Not brow-beating legalism, but saltiness in love and compassion for this confused, demonic world. Make no mistake, Satan and those who hold to his agenda are very salty. They are bold and on fire for their cause. They are not ashamed of their ungodly, satanic agenda.

The Church is so needy of the approval of man and his world, so intimidated by the boldness of the liberal opinion, that it has come to no effect in these days when the world so desperately needs to hear God’s voice! This Nation is so weary of the same old rhetoric from most politicians that its people are losing hope in the future of this country. No salt, no fire, no solutions, no boldness, no radical reformation, just the same old stale stuff we’ve heard for decades!

I am embarrassed to say, but the world is just as weary of mild-mannered preachers who have been contaminated with the world’s way of thinking. They are trying to mix the Gospel with a New Age, self-help kind of religion that has neither the power to create new life nor give new hope for living, much less a glorious hope for the future.

I like to read old books written by authors who maintain the purity of the Gospel. They didn’t write to sell books to a broad market, they authored books to declare Truth without fear or compromise. Most of these books would not hold the interest of many modern-day Christians as they would not tolerate the amount of conviction that comes with reading such material.

I will spend the next few weeks writing on the thought of Salty Disciples, I hope you will join me.
