And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

If you have been around me much at all you have heard me preach on this principle. This is more than something I heard someone say, more than a cool sounding phrase packed with promise and potential. This is MY life story.

I want to talk to a possibly smaller group of people today. People like me, whose life was far less than normal. I will spare you the unnecessary, lengthy details of my story from May of 1961 when I was born, through February 1991, when I was born again. However, I will share a little background with the hopes someone might be able to identify.

I dropped out of school just as I turned sixteen and lived in one place or another until I was married at eighteen years old. I became a father at nineteen. If there had been a category in high school for The Most Likely to Be a Loser, I easily would have won. I was dealing with more junk by the time I was a teenager than I would want to share, or you would want to hear. Suffice it to say, I was consumed with depression, anxiety, and insecurity. I was willing to hold a job and work hard, but it seemed an impossibility to ever land the “American Dream.” I had convinced myself that stuff and success was the answer to all my woes.

BUT GOD!! In February of 1991, my wife and I were radically saved! From that day on, God began redeeming my dysfunctions. I am nowhere near where I want to be or where God wants me to be, but I can tell you His grace is sufficient, and He continues to use me despite my past.

Here’s what I want someone to know:

1. God will save anyone. Don’t ever think He won’t save you. That is a lie from Satan who wants to destroy your life and send you to an eternal, tormenting hell. He is a liar! Also, never lose hope that God will save your dysfunctional family – can I get a witness?

2. God will redeem your dysfunctions. He will take what Satan has used to destroy you and not only forgive you but use your dysfunction for His glory.

3. God will use your life to change other’s lives. He will take what you have been through and use it to redeem the dysfunction in others. This is why you are still wrestling with things at times. Satan wants you to quit. Do not quit, do not give in, don’t give up. God has a plan!

4. God will give you the grace to conquer. Never, never, never allow Satan, or anyone else for that matter, to make a victim out of you. You are more than a conqueror! You are a blood-bought child of the Living God! Let God Redeem the Dysfunction!
